- The Temple of Saturn at the west end of the Forum in Rome. Originally built c. 497 BCE, it was restored in 43 BCE and rebuilt in 360-80 CE after a fire. The eight ancient columns are made of Egyptian granite; the inner frieze was carved of white marble c. 30 BCE; the Ionic capitals were made of marble in the 4th century CE. The inscription on the architrave, added at the restoration of 360-80, reads: SENATUS POPULUSQUE ROMANUS / INCENDIO CONSUMPTUM RESTITUIT. "Destroyed by fire; restored by the Senate and people of Rome."
