Statue of Marsyas
- Caption
-
Statue of Marsyas, a Silenos who had the temerity to challenge Apollo to a musical contest and was flayed alive. The choice of the violet-veined marble dramatically renders the livid color of Marsyas' tortured body. This is a copy from the early Roman imperial age of a Greek original of the 2nd century BC. M.C. 1077.
