- The striking west facade of Angers Cathedral, narrower than most because the nave has no side aisles. It is a mix of periods and styles: the lowest level is Romanesque from c.1170, the Gothic twin spires (70m and 77m high) date from the 15th century and the central tower was added in the 16th century Renaissance period. At the base of the central tower are 16th-century sculptures of St Maurice and his companions, with a prayer for peace above.
